Here are different ways to transform your home from summer to fall. A charming fall-inspired decor is a great way to celebrate the season.

Fall is one of my favorite seasons! Going from the hot and humid Maryland summers to the cool and crisp fall air is a sure welcome change. It is exhilarating to see the leaves change from green to yellow, orange, and bright red colors! Add to that the classic scents of the fall season like apples, pumpkins, and cinnamon; then you’re ready to get your home spruced up for the season!
To make your home cozy and cute for fall, I put together a few decorating tips. Whether you like to fill the house with many fall foliage and pumpkins or take a more minimalist approach to a sprinkle of fall accents, I’ve put together different ways to get your home ready for fall.
Bring the outdoors in
When I think of fall, the first thing that comes to mind is fall foliage. Coming from the Bay Area, I’d never seen so much fall beauty until I moved out east! There are so many trees here, and it is pretty astounding to see them change into these spectacular, vibrant autumn hues!
I like to bring the rustic, organic feel of the outdoors inside by adding colorful fall foliage in an amber vase. If you want a neutral tone, an alternative would be to use dried wheat, fluffy pampas grass, or dried bunny tails and put them in a favorite ceramic vase.
Another idea is to add fillers. The great thing about these is they are relatively affordable, and the best part is more than likely you have them in the house already: dried beans, popcorn kernels, candy corn, pinecones, acorns, faux leaves, decorative Indian corn, or mini-faux pumpkins.
Add these fillers to your favorite containers (again, use what you already have at home): candleholders (hurricane), apothecary glass jars, glass pitchers, bowls, flower vases, or milk bottles to name a few.
Add Autumn-Inspired Accents
Take the autumn decor up a notch by adding a few fall designs into the mix! Greet your guests and make them feel at home with a welcome mat and a beautiful wreath on the door. Add some festive fall touches like fuzzy throws and patterned pillows to your living room and bedroom.
Take an ordinary basket and make it look extra fall-dinary by adding leaves as a base and put pumpkins or gourds of various colors and sizes. An alternative is to use it as storage for pillows or throws.
Candles are a great addition to your fall decor arsenal. Not only do they provide the deliciously spicy and fruity scents we love for this time of year, but they also come in beautiful containers you can repurpose!
Decorate with Seasonal Colors
Decorating with any fall color brings out the warm, inviting feelings relating to the season! Fill your home with fall colors such as the rich and warm shades of toasty brown, olive green, burnt orange, rich burgundy, eggplant purple, and bright yellow. Pick 2 to 3 colors and scatter them throughout the room to make it feel cohesive. Use pillows, artwork, accent rugs, books, lampshades, and fabric to create this fall look.
Want to subdue the colors? Bring out the chocolate brown, melted caramel, warm beige, creamy taupe, or gunmetal grays. Fall tablescape
This is probably one of my favorite things to do: creating tablescapes! To me, there are soooooo many ways to create a beautiful table. Not only does it enhance the feel of the holiday or season, but it also lets your family and friends know you care about them by going the extra mile to make it feel and look special. I’ll have to do a dedicated fall tablescape post, but here it is in a nutshell – add flowers, candles, and vases, and you’ll immediately set the mood for the table. Or you can do a slightly different twist by replacing flowers with succulents in a cornucopia like this post I had here:
There are many tableware fall designs out there! This season is a great time to pick fun, festive themes from fall leaves, Halloween, pumpkins, and turkey prints! Go neutral with white plates and accent with a harvest-themed salad plate or just a pumpkin or leaf for simplicity.
