We know fall will be here in just a couple of weeks. I don’t know about you, but I find myself not wanting to let go of all the cute summer outfits just yet! With the finicky weather of starting cool in the morning then turning warm in the afternoon, it can be quite frustrating to figure out what to wear.

Fall is about layering, so adding a layer to your summer outfits is the secret. Let me give you some tips and examples on transitioning your favorite summer outfit for the fall season. If you like any of these pieces, double-click on the pictures. It will take you to my LTK account to shop for these looks.

Tip 1: Denim Jacket
You probably already own a denim jacket, so this is a no-brainer. If you don’t own one yet, you have a reason to buy one now. A denim jacket is the quickest and easiest way to make your outfit work when the weather gets cooler. It’s a versatile piece that works with every outfit, whether your t-shirt and leggings combo or your favorite summer maxi.

Tip 2: Plaid Button Down Top
So is it just me, or does wearing plaid print give you all the fall feels? I think it’s a great fall staple, so what better way to get into the fall mood than adding these tops to your closet? Try a simple black and white shacket, be adventurous with unconventional fall colors like hot pink and purple, or stick with traditional fall colors like orange and brown button tops. When it comes to plaid, the options are endless, and it’s an affordable piece! Switch up your favorite white t-shirt with this top, or wear it over your favorite tank top.

Tip 3: Light Knit Cardigan, Kimono, or a Blazer
Just like a denim jacket, a long cardigan, kimono, or blazer is another great piece to layer on to your summer outfits. Nothing beats that comfy, cozy feeling we all love for fall!

Tip 4: Sweater
Fall means #sweaterweather is here to stay! Pair a sweater with any of your summer bottoms – shorts, skirts, leggings, and pants – and you’ll be fall ready! Since the weather can be unpredictable, choose a light-knit sweater you can wear during warm temps but good enough to take the chill off on a cool fall evening.

Tip 5: Ankle Booties
Pairing your summer outfit with ankle booties and accessories will instantly make your summer outfit fall chic! Plaid button-down top, denim shorts, ankle booties, and a hat are a great look for fall. That maxi dress you’ve been enjoying this summer? Add a denim jacket and booties, and voila! Easy Fall OOTD! How about pairing that t-shirt with faux leather leggings and booties for an edgy street-style look. The options are endless with ankle booties – plus, it’s something you can wear for the winter season too!

I hope you found these tips helpful! Add these simple and lightweight layers as we transition from summer to fall, and you’re good to go!
