Son Jung Wan is a fashion designer from South Korea. She is known for “capturing the dual nature of women, who want pretty, feminine dresses sometimes, and at other times want to stride out in chic, sexy look.”

Son Jung Wan opened up her first store in 1986 and established her namesake brand in 1989. She has been awarded numerous awards, including “Golden Needle Award” from the Korea Fashion Editor Association and “Designer of the Year” by Seoul Metropolitan.

Her first New York Fashion Week show was back in February 2011 and has been a regular presenter ever since.

Having attended her show for the first time last month, I must say, it did not disappoint! I am so impressed with her brilliant use of colors, bold prints, and intricate designs.

The theme for her Fall/Winter 2019 collection evokes a romantic mood while being creatively playful. The collection’s 42 looks were designed to create “soft and feminine with a playful silhouette using ruffles, pleats, and embroidery.”
From her collection, you get the feeling of fall, where color schemes of burnt oranges, dark purples, and bright yellows were prominently displayed. Blues and greens such as navy, turquoise, and jade were among attention grabbers while metallics such as gold and gunmetal provided that extra shimmer and pop.
In addition, you get the warmth of fall and winter with the choice of heavier materials such as tweed, wool, and velvet, faux fur, and leather. In contrast, silk is incorporated in some of her looks, a material ideal for light and feminine silhouettes, perfect for this designer’s high-fashion style. Details of flower-embellishment add a whimsically dreamy look while sequins and beads create depths of sparkle and elegance, a radiant finish appropriate for a New York Fashion Week runway!
