I think we can all agree, when it comes to summer, there are many aspects to love:  long days, warm nights, grilled foods, fun vacations, to name a few.  With summer, the fashionable outfits are endless (read my post on how to stay cool during this season here), but one piece, in particular, comes as a style staple – a summer hat!  A great straw hat is one of my favorite summer accessories!

From bucket hats to the fedora to a big floppy hat, a stylish summer topper pulls together any look!  When the temps rise, and we’re spending time outdoors, a summer hat also provides relief from the beating sun (and talk about blocking out those dangerous UV rays)!  Oh, and how about those bad hair days (think humidity and uncontrollable hair…enough said), it sure makes a great cover-up!

To help you block those rays and look trendy at the same time, I’ve rounded up my favorite summer hats below.

Boater

Wear with a flowy maxi dress, crop top, shorts, and sandals or a cute peasant top and wide-leg pants.  Wear the hat slightly tilted to the front or the side for a modern edge. With this hat, you create a look that’s sophisticated and effortless.

Floppy

My favorite way to pair a floppy hat is with any summer dress – go to a picnic, a garden tea party, or an elegant early outdoor dinner.  Additionally, you can wear a button-down shirt with jeans and sunglasses or wear to hide your messy beach hair with your favorite swimsuit and coverup.

bucket

Wear a bucket hat with an oversized t-shirt dress to get you from the beach to a casual grill-out dinner.  You could never go wrong with denim jeans and a t-shirt.  You can also pair it with a strappy dress and some ankle boots for an instant dose of chic and modern.

Fedora

A fedora is so versatile and goes well with easy, effortless outfits.  Wear with any distressed jeans and a white tee, tank top with high-waisted shorts and sunnies, or even a one-shoulder floral romper and sandals.

Baseball

You can wear a baseball hat stylishly no matter what event you attend!  Pair with a t-shirt and shorts with your hair pulled in a low pony or low bun, wear the cap with a t-shirt dress and a jean jacket tied around your waist, distressed jeans and a leather jacket, your favorite loungewear with comfortable leggings, or elevate with a black leather baseball cap with leggings and heels or booties.

Panama

This style hat goes with just about anything!  To complete your summer look, wear with a bikini, a loose-fitting sleeveless top with jeans and sandals, or long maxi dress with a crossbody purse and espadrilles.

Newsboy/Bakerboy

Keep it simple!  Wear a t-shirt and jeans (or shorts), a loose linen suit and loafers, or a t-shirt with a pleated maxi skirt and a crossbody bag for a run around the city.

visor

When I think of visor, I immediately think of old ladies or Hawaiian-shirt wearing tourists.  That’s NO longer the case with today’s visors!  The styles have been updated, and some of them are pretty cool (think raffia/straw material, ombre colors, and wrap-around shades).  Wear it to the beach or pool without sacrificing the hat shape.

    1. yessssss! totally can relate! I know they have the ones with a tie/ribbon, but I don’t like the look. Although very practical…

  1. I love rocking hats all summer long! The big straw ones are definitely my fave. I can’t believe how well you can pull off every type of hat! So jelly.
